Back to School in the Bluff City
The kids are back in school, and the heat is dying down. However, there are still plenty of ways to celebrate the final days of summer in the Bluff City. Whether you’re looking for a community event or wanting to keep it closer to home, we’ve got a list of ideas for you to bring in the new school year.
A Day at the Fair
Nothing says carefree and fun like a day at the fair! An afternoon of games, popcorn and cotton candy is the perfect way to wrap up the summer and start the new school year. The Delta Fair is about to kick off at the Agricenter International, followed by the Mid-South Fair at the Landers Center. Take a Saturday and bring the family to keep the summer spirit alive for a little while longer.
A Picnic and a Show
Savor the last few days of sun with a picnic by the scenic Mississippi river. You can keep it small, or rent a tent and invite all your friends and family. Add a few yard games and grab a good book for a relaxing day by the riverside. You can also pack a snack and catch the last few shows in the Levitt Shell concert series in the beautiful, Overton Park. Bring a blanket and soak up the spirit of the city with evening of music in Memphis.
A Block Party
If you’d rather spend the last days of summer a little closer to home, invite your friends and neighbors to pitch in for a back to school block party! The more the merrier, right? Have everyone bring a dish and rent a moon bounce for the kids. Host a face-paint competition, or start a new tradition, like a cooking contest. Your neighbors are sure to engage with the chance to win bragging rights for the best apple pie of the year. Fill your party with live music and carnival games to end the summer on a high note.
A Summer Night Bonfire
To wrap up the final days of vacation, gather your closet friends around a fire to share the best-made memories from the summer. Light up the trees and crack open the marshmallows for one last night of laughter and bliss.
