Celebrate Elvis Week in Memphis
If there is one event in Memphis that brings out the rich culture of the Blues City, it’s Elvis Week. Lace up your blue suede shoes and get ready for a week filled with history, fun, and rock and roll. When you aren’t visiting Graceland or touring Sun Studio, you can celebrate the King with your own Elvis event! Gather your friends and family, and keep the spirit of the King alive with a little less conversation and a little more jailhouse rock.
Sock hop
Step back in time and celebrate Elvis in true 50s style with a sock hop! Invite all your friends to dust off their poodle skirts and grease up their hair for a night of old fashioned rock and roll. Decorate your space with mood lighting and a checkerboard dance floor. Try hosting a costume contest and a dance competition to get your guests in the spirit. Host a small dance party at home, or rent a tent with all the bells and whistles. Crank up the tunes and watch your guests shake, rattle and roll.
Drive-in
Elvis was more than just the King of rock and roll; he also appeared in more than 30 films throughout his career. If you aren’t the dancing type, you can always host an Elvis movie marathon. Set up a projector in the backyard to create a drive-in experience, and prepare classic movie snacks for all your friends. Don’t forget the peanut butter and banana sandwiches!
Tasting tour
Speaking of the King’s favorite treat, don’t forget to take a tour of all the restaurants in Memphis that serve their own variation! Memphis is full of Elvis-themed eats. You could even host a competition for your friends and family to see who can craft the best dish with peanut butter and bananas.
Burning love bonfire
After touring Memphis, bring everyone back together for a burning love bonfire, complete with marshmallows and a few of the King’s softer tunes. You can’t help falling in love with the smooth voice of Elvis Presley under the blue moon of Kentucky. There are a number of ways to dress up your outdoor event with as much style as the King.
Elvis Concert
Go out with a bang and host a tribute concert! Hire an Elvis impersonator to charm your guests, or call up your musical friends to take the stage. You can host a costume contest, a karaoke competition or even a lip-sync battle! Nothing would honor the King of Rock and Roll like a night of singing, dancing and enjoying the gift of music.
